Entry requirements
Check the one-round test, score standard and nine-mile priority area.

- Testing and entry
- Girls may test only once. Successful entrants must start in the September immediately following the test.
Outside the normal age group?
Write to the Head Teacher with professional evidence, including the primary school’s explanation and any local-authority agreement. The school considers exceptional requests individually.
The selection test
- One round
- Multiple-choice verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Scores are age-adjusted and combined.
- Required standard
- 210 marks, unless the school adjusts the standard to fill its admission number after the admissions process.
Meeting the required standard does not guarantee a place. Use the school’s invitation to confirm your assigned test date.
Where you live
The nine-mile radius affects priority. Girls outside it may test and remain in a separate allocation category.
- Official measurement
- A straight line from the home property’s unique grid reference, including flats, to the main school-building entrance.
- Home address
- The girl’s only or principal home, where she sleeps most school nights. The council determines boundary cases.
Moving home?
Bromley needs notice and proof of an address change by 7 December 2026 for the first allocation. Apply from your current main home and tell admissions promptly about a move. Other councils may have different procedures.

Application route
How to apply
Test registration is separate from your home council’s secondary school application.
Register with Newstead Wood
Submit the online SIF, identification photo, residence evidence and any support documents by 30 June.
Attend the assigned selection test
Check your invitation: official documents give conflicting September dates. There is one test round.
Read the October result
Results are emailed during 16–22 October and include the score and required standard.
Apply through your home council
Name Newstead Wood on the CAF by 31 October, in your true preference order. Your council sends offers on 1 March 2027.
Places & priorities
How places are allocated
168 Year 7 places, including EHCP placements. Every route requires the school’s academic standard.
EHCP placements come first
Girls with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) naming Newstead Wood follow the council SEND process and must demonstrate the required ability through the school’s test.
Looked-after and previously looked-after girls
First priority after EHCP placements, with the required test score and supporting evidence.
Pupil Premium or Service Premium within nine miles
Girls living within the radius and qualifying for the funding at application to sit the test, who meet the required standard.
Remaining places in the main priority group
Girls within nine miles and outside-radius daughters of staff employed for at least two years at test application, ranked together by total score.
Other girls outside nine miles
Considered after the preceding groups, by total-score rank.
How are equal scores decided?
Non-verbal reasoning performance differentiates equal total scores where necessary. The policy does not give a final rule if these scores are also equal.

Evidence supports address checks, priority claims and test arrangements.
Identification and residence
Upload a recent passport-style photo and accepted residence evidence with the SIF: a GP/hospital document, junior bank statement, Council Tax statement or Child Benefit statement. Utility bills are not accepted.
Pupil Premium or looked-after status
Pupil Premium needs written confirmation from the current school at test application. Looked-after claims need professional evidence; follow the school’s checklist for the relevant authority letter and court order.
SEND or medical arrangements
Upload the completed access-arrangements form, the primary SENDCO’s supporting letter and professional diagnostic evidence with the SIF by its deadline.
