Outside the normal age group?
Contact the school before applying. An application outside the normal age group must also be accepted by your home local authority.
The entrance test
- One round
- English and mathematics, both multiple choice, in a single session.
- Eligibility score
- A combined age-standardised score of 225 or higher.
225 is the minimum for consideration, not a guaranteed offer score. Places depend on the ranking of eligible applicants.
Where you live
No catchment. Distance is used when applicants have the same test score.
Use your child’s permanent home address, consistent with the address held by his primary school.
Which home address should I use?
A childminder’s or business address cannot be used. For separated parents, use the home where your child usually lives and from which he attends primary school.
For equal residence at two homes, the policy uses the address of the main parent or carer eligible for Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit. Ask admissions to confirm the address and evidence for your circumstances.
Application route
How to apply
Test registration is separate from your home council’s secondary school application.
Register for the test
Submit the school’s test request form by the July deadline and keep the acknowledgement.
Attend your assigned session
Take both papers in the session on your invitation. The school does not offer a choice of test day or session.
Read the test result
The school confirms whether your son meets the required standard. The provisional results date is 1 October.
Apply through your home council
If eligible, name Queen Elizabeth’s on your CAF in your genuine preference order. Check your home council’s deadline; Barnet’s is 31 October.
Receive your council’s offer
Your home council sends the outcome on 1 March 2027. Test eligibility alone does not reserve a place.
Places & priorities
How places are allocated
180 Year 7 places, allocated by combined entrance-test score.
The school has no separate Pupil Premium, sibling or aptitude priority. The minimum academic standard still applies if places remain unfilled.
On-time eligible applicants
Ranked by combined test score, highest first. Equal scores are ordered by distance.
Late council applications
Considered after applications received by the published deadline.
How are equal scores decided?
- Initial offers
- Straight-line distance from the home’s Ordnance Survey address point to the main school gate, nearest first. An independently supervised random ballot resolves a remaining tie for the final place.
- Waiting list
- The policy specifies straight-line distance from the home’s front door to the main school gate for equal scores on the waiting list.
Waiting lists and appeals
Eligible applicants without an offer are ranked by combined test score. The list is re-ranked when applicants join and is maintained until 31 December 2027.
If your child was offered a school you ranked higher, check with your home council before seeking a place on QE’s waiting list. Its policy sets a preference-change condition for applicants who scored above the lowest initial offer.
Parents who applied but were not offered a place can appeal to an independent panel.

Keep your registration evidence and arrange any test support with the school.
Registration acknowledgement
After the deadline, test-request queries need a valid acknowledgement of receipt.
SEND or medical adjustments
Complete the medical and SEND section of the test request, and ask the primary school to return the SEND questionnaire. The school decides reasonable adjustments.

Bring a printout of the emailed invitation, including your son’s unique code.
