Entry requirements
Check the school’s Catholic admissions requirements, age and entrance test.
Who can apply
- Applicants
- Girls whose parents seek a Catholic education.
- Normal birth dates
- 1 September 2015 – 31 August 2016
- Usual test invitation
- Baptised Catholic girls from practising Catholic families. The Catholic definition also includes reception and a looked-after exception.
Other applicants may be invited only if the usual faith-qualified pool is below 175.
Catholic status and practice
Catholic status includes Churches in full communion with Rome and reception into full communion. It also includes a looked-after child in a Catholic family whose Certificate of Catholic Practice shows that baptism or reception would have happened but for their looked-after status.
A parish priest must certify the family’s Catholic practice. The policy sets attendance conditions and recognises exceptional interruptions; ask the priest about the Certificate of Catholic Practice.
Outside the normal age group?
Write to the Chair of Governors before submitting the SIF, giving reasons and professional evidence. Governors consider each request individually.
The entrance test

- Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Mathematics.

- Applicants receive a combined test rank. The English paper is written, not multiple choice.
Looked-after and Pupil Premium priority normally requires a top-175 rank, alongside the faith conditions.
Where you live
The policy sets no catchment priority. Home-to-school distance is used after the subject-mark tie-breaks.
Which home address should I use?
Use the child’s normal home. With shared custody or multiple homes, use the address of the parent receiving Child Benefit; if none is received, use the parent with whom the child lives longer.
Barnet uses straight-line distance from the school’s main entrance to the home’s front door.
Application route
How to apply
Test registration is separate from your home council’s secondary school application.
Submit the school SIF
Complete and submit the online form. Creating an account alone does not register your daughter for the test.
Supply the required evidence
Upload the faith and priority evidence; deliver the original signed Certificate of Catholic Practice to the school office by the SIF deadline.
Attend the entrance test if invited
Use the school invitation for attendance instructions. Notify admissions of access needs before testing.
Apply through your home council
Name St Michael’s on your CAF in preference order. Check your home council’s deadline; Barnet’s is 31 October.
Receive the council outcome
Your home council sends offers on 1 March 2027.

Places & priorities
How places are allocated
128 Year 7 places. The usual priorities below all require the school’s Catholic and practising-family conditions.
Looked-after and previously looked-after girls
First priority with a top-175 test rank, including the policy’s internationally adopted group.
Up to 32 Pupil Premium girls
A top-175 rank is required. If more than 32 qualify, places follow test rank. The policy includes Service Premium.
Remaining faith-qualified girls
Remaining girls meeting the same faith conditions, in test-rank order.
If the usual test pool is below 175
Governors may invite other age-eligible girls to bring the number tested to 175. This conditional order applies only if that happens.

The policy does not specify ranking within every conditional group. Ask admissions how your daughter would be considered if this route opens.
How are equal ranks decided?
Compare Verbal Reasoning marks first, then Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Mathematics. A remaining tie uses nearest home-to-school distance; equal distance is resolved by drawing lots using Barnet’s recommended system.
Waiting list and appeals
Tested applicants who named the school but received no place automatically join the Year 7 waiting list until 31 December 2027, ordered by the admissions criteria. Parents can appeal a refusal; the normal-entry deadline is 31 March at 16:00.
Family support
Documents & support
Keep the faith, priority and test-support documents together.
Catholic status
Upload the Catholic baptism certificate, or reception certificate where applicable. Provide an English translation for a certificate in another language.
Certificate of Catholic Practice
Deliver the original signed paper certificate, dated within three months of applying, by the SIF deadline. Electronic and emailed copies are not accepted.
Pupil Premium or looked-after status
Notify the school when applying. Pupil Premium needs a primary-school confirmation letter; looked-after claims need status evidence.
SEND or medical arrangements
Supply an EHCP or primary-school SENDCO evidence before testing. The school checks usual arrangements with the primary school; visually impaired candidates can receive adapted papers.
