Check the age rule and both test stages before applying.

- Age rule
- The policy describes boys turning eleven in the academic year of the September test. Ask admissions to confirm the intended birth-date range for 2027 entry.
Outside the normal age group?
Write to the Head Teacher with the primary headteacher’s recommendation and evidence of exceptional circumstances. Governors consider each request individually.
The entrance tests
- Stage One
- One-hour SET: multiple-choice English, logic and mathematics. The top 450 progress.
- Stage Two
- One hour each for English and mathematics, by invitation.
Standardised Stage Two scores and SET marks are aggregated for final ranking. Progression to Stage Two does not guarantee a place.
Where you live
There is no catchment area, sibling priority or feeder-school preference.
Use your child’s home address and apply through the council where you live.

How to apply
Test registration is separate from your home council’s secondary school application.
Submit the CAF by 31 October, before the 13 November Stage Two test.
Register for the SET
Submit the school’s online SIF, identification photo and any supporting evidence by 29 June at midday.
Take Stage One
Attend the assigned session on 18 September. The school sends the outcome before the October CAF deadline.
Apply through your home council
Name St Olave’s on the CAF in your true preference order by 31 October.
Attend Stage Two if invited
Take the English and mathematics tests on 13 November. Your council sends the offer on 1 March 2027.
Places & priorities
How places are allocated
124 standard Year 7 places, plus up to four additional choristership places.
EHCP placements
Boys with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) naming St Olave’s are admitted first if they meet the school’s academic admission standard.
Additional choristership places
Up to four places above the standard 124 require academic ability and a choristership at the King’s Chapel of the Savoy. The separate 2027 timetable needs school confirmation.
Looked-after and previously looked-after boys
First priority by rank. All qualifying boys in the initial top 450 who take the subsequent tests are admitted.
Up to ten Pupil Premium places
Eligible boys are considered next, by rank. The school requires primary-school evidence of free-school-meal registration within the preceding six years.
Remaining places
Allocated in final test rank order.
How are equal scores decided?
The order is mathematics paper, creative writing, English multiple choice, then SET. Any remaining tie is decided by a computer-generated random number administered independently of the school.
Why does the FAQ mention 128 pupils?
The policy sets 124 standard places plus up to four choristers. The FAQ says unused chorister places are offered through the council to reach 128. Ask admissions about that arrangement; the published standard admission number remains 124.

Prepare the evidence that applies to your son.
Identification and Pupil Premium
Upload a recent passport-style photo with the SIF. For Pupil Premium, obtain confirmation from the current primary school of registered free school meals within six years before the test-registration deadline.
SEND and medical evidence
Upload a written assessment from an educational psychologist or Level 7 specialist teacher dated within the last two years, and/or documented medical evidence, with the SIF.
Primary-school SEND report
Give the school’s form to your son’s SENDCO. They must email it directly to admissions by 3 July 2026, describing his normal classroom and assessment support.
Illness on a test day
If illness or serious circumstances prevent testing, notify admissions by 09:00 that day and provide documentary evidence. An alternative date depends on acceptable evidence.
