Outside the normal age group?
Request consideration at SET registration with supporting evidence; the school confirms its decision before testing. A summer-born child whose Reception entry was delayed and who has remained outside their age cohort throughout primary school will be accepted for consideration with evidence. The SET may only be taken once.
The entrance tests

- Written English and maths. Pass each subject and the overall standard.
The school determines its pass marks. SET eligibility and second-stage success do not guarantee a place.
How is the academic ranking calculated?
SET, second-stage English and second-stage maths are combined in a 1:2:2 ratio. The school considers an appropriate age adjustment before calculating the aggregate score.
Where you live
Sutton-borough residence is used only when candidates have an equal rank. Boys living elsewhere can apply.
Use your child’s permanent home address. The home council verifies it; temporary, business or carer addresses cannot be used to gain priority.
Shared care or moving home?
For shared care, provide a joint declaration of the living arrangements. Use the home where your child spends most of the school week. If time is split equally, parents choose the address; without agreement, the policy uses the address registered with the doctor, taking all evidence into account.
Your home council checks residence. Tell it about any move and supply the evidence it requests. An address used only to gain priority may invalidate an application or offer.
Applying while living outside England?
Your child needs a linked address in the relevant local authority area and evidence that they will return before September 2027. It must not be an address of convenience. Contact your intended home council before applying. The SET must be taken at a Sutton test centre; there is no overseas testing.

How to apply
Test registration is separate from your home council’s secondary school application.
If your child already has an EHCP, use your council’s EHCP coordinator route and still register for the tests. While an EHCP assessment is unfinished, submit the ordinary council application.
Register for the SET
Complete one online SET registration for the participating schools by the July deadline. This also serves as the supplementary form.
Take the SET
Attend the assigned venue and session. Your test centre does not decide your school preferences.
Attend the second stage if invited
The school’s SET standard determines the invitation. Take both second-stage papers and read the school’s eligibility outcome.
Choose any aptitude assessments
If invited after passing Wilson’s SET standard, opt into sport and/or music testing on 10 October. Academic qualification is still required.
Apply through your home council
Name Wilson’s School on your CAF by 31 October in your genuine preference order. Passing the tests does not itself create a school application.
Receive your council’s offer
Your home council sends the outcome on 1 March 2027. Follow the response instructions in its offer letter.

Places & priorities
How places are allocated
186 Year 7 places. The school applies the following priorities to eligible applicants.
All categories require Wilson’s academic selective standard. Sport and music places also require the separate aptitude benchmark.
The EHCP route comes first
Children whose EHCP names Wilson’s School are allocated first if they meet the school’s selective standard. These placements reduce the remaining places.
Looked-after and previously looked-after boys
First priority after EHCP placements, in academic-test rank order.
14 income-related free-school-meal places
For boys eligible for income-related FSM when registering for SET, ranked by academic-test score. The FSM box must have been ticked before registration closed.
9 sport-aptitude places
For boys above the sport benchmark, in sport-aptitude rank order.
9 music-aptitude places
For boys above the music benchmark, in music-aptitude rank order.
Remaining places
Allocated by academic-test rank, including unused FSM, sport and music places.
Which looked-after children qualify?
This includes children in local-authority care or accommodation, and children who left care immediately through adoption, a child arrangements order or a special guardianship order. It also includes children adopted after state care outside England. The school requires evidence.
How are equal ranks decided?
Within any category, equal ranks at the allocation boundary go first to Sutton-borough residents, nearest first, then to other residents, nearest first. Sutton measures straight-line distance from the home’s main entrance to the school’s main entrance. An independently supervised random ballot resolves equal rank and distance.
Waiting lists and appeals
Eligible applicants still seeking a place join the waiting list for the relevant admission category. These lists follow the published priorities until 31 December 2027. Parents who made a valid application and were refused a place can appeal.

Test invitation
Bring a printed invitation showing the candidate number, venue and session.
Income-related FSM evidence
The school verifies income-related FSM eligibility at SET registration with the primary school after entrance-test success, or requests other evidence. The FSM registration box cannot be changed after registration closes; wider Pupil Premium eligibility is not the same criterion.
Looked-after status
Provide the school with evidence of care status or the qualifying order or adoption.
SEND or medical arrangements
The request and evidence deadline was 12 June 2026. Your primary school SENCO must submit evidence through the dedicated link sent after registration. Contact SET SEND admissions about your child’s arrangements.
If your child is unwell on test day
Follow the unfit-to-sit instructions in your invitation before the assigned session starts. Supporting medical evidence is required.
